Soft Paws® nail caps are made in the USA using non-toxic vinyl. The nail caps are applied to your cat's claws using a non-toxic, cold-bonding, veterinary-grade adhesive, and are a completely safe and humane solution to cat scratching problems. Soft Paws do not interfere with the normal extension and retraction of claws, and most cats don't even know they are wearing them.

Kitten: Less than 6 months old

Soft Paws will fit most kittens by the time they reach the age of 16 weeks (4 months). Some kittens can wear them as early as age 12 weeks (3 months) . To test, try a nail cap on first without the adhesive. If it looks too big, don't glue it on. The nail cap should fit snugly, like a glove.

To accommodate smaller kittens, you can trim the base (open end) of the Soft Paws nail cap, making it smaller so it will fit your kitten's nail.

Kittens up to about 5 pounds generally fit the kitten size. Kittens up to about 5 months generally fit the kitten size.

Small: Approximately 6 months old / Approximately 6-8 pounds

Some kittens at 5 months may need the small size if they are growing fast or are large-breed cats.

Small-boned adult cats often wear the small size. If your cat seems smaller than an average full-grown cat, choose small.

Medium: Approximately 9-13 pounds

Most adult average size cats wear medium.

Large: Approximately 14 pounds and up

Very large-boned and large-breed cats wear large. Maine Coons, for example, are very large cats and generally wear large.

Instructions: How to Apply Soft Paws®

Applying Soft Paws® is easy! Watch our new video on How to Trim Your Cat's Claws!

FOR KITTENS: Do not trim kittens' claws before applying Soft Paws. You will need sufficient claw surface for the glue to adhere properly.

  • STEP 1: Trim the tip of your cat's nails. Trim just enough to allow the nail cap to fit all the way to the base of the nail. Watch a video tutorial here.

  • STEP 2: Fill nail caps 1/3 full with adhesive. Gently squeeze the nail cap to evenly distribute the glue and release any air bubbles. If the glue oozes out of the nail cap, you have inserted too much adhesive. Remove some of the glue by squeezing it onto a paper towel.

  • STEP 3: Extend nails by gently pressing thumb on top with index finger on bottom of paw -- slide nail caps onto nail.

  • STEP 4: Observe cat for five minutes before release. You can play with your cat or feed some of kitty's
